I am a Christian

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean living."
I'm whispering "I was lost, now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are far too visible but God believes I am worth it.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches so I call upon His name.

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou.
I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow!

Sago worms, anyone??

During our recent trip to the weekly market (Tamu)at donggongon, Jerome stopped by at a stall selling sago worms. In our native language it is called "butod". As he was negotiating with the seller I asked him what he wanted to do with the butod. He said..."for you to cook!" I was flabbergasted! Actually the thought of eating butod has been on his mind eversince we had sago worms as one of the games during our daughter Joelle's birthday. Somehow it never occurred to me that Jerome would really want to eat them! After paying RM10 per packet of live sago worms he went on to tell me that sago worms are the cleanest 'animal' as they lives on eating sago only. Fyi, they are also very nutritious because of its high protein content.

At home, seeing the wriggling creatures Joelle was overjoy! She held, kissed, and played with them. These creatures don't smell at all. Frankly speaking, they are actually very clean...

You may wonder...did I really cook these wonderful creatures?? Yes, I did. But I didn't eat...I just can't...I felt gross...Jerome and kids ate them and they were in fact enjoyed the delicacy.

Raw food diet

Most natural healing practitioner including homeopath encourage their patients to increase their intake of raw food to 75% in order to achieve optimum health. During an illness, correct nutrition will expedite healing. Even if you have recovered from your illness, it is of vital importance for you to continue consuming a balanced diet which is low in fat and high in fiber.

I am personally convinced that a raw food diet of at least 75%  is essential for those who wish to take control of their own health. The raw food diet is a diet based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, nuts, dried fruit, and seaweed.
Heating food above 116 degrees F is believed to destroy enzymes in food which is supposed to assist in the digestion and absorption of food. Cooking destroy the nutritional value of food and may bring more harm than good to our precious body.
My daily food intake: Breakfast (6.30am): fruit juice, post breakfast (9.30am): fruit smoothies, Lunch (12.30pm): a bowl of vege salad + raw nuts, such as almond, cashew & walnut, tea break (3.30pm): fruit smoothies, Dinner (6.30pm): Plain rice, grilled fish/chicken, & 2 type of stir fried vegetables.
Of course, once in a while I have to sacrifice my raw food breakfast and lunch to cooked food when I'm outside my home and when there's no raw food available outside.

A patient came to see me in the wee hour of the morning to get a fast relief of diarrhea. She said that she visited the toilet for more than 10 times the night before and was not able to sleep due to the problem. It must be something that she ate. Diarrhea is a signal of a problem in the digestive system. It is a natural reaction of the bowels to purge the body of toxins. Diarrhea can be caused by unclean water, spicy food, eating too quickly or eating contaminated food. Mixing too many foods, such as vegetable and fruit salad, pickles, drinks and other snacks, or eating too much heavy, creamy food, can cause the digestive tract to react adversely and expel the overload. For her case, as she admitted that she overindulged during dinner that night along with a few glasses of alcohol. Based on this and other symptom, I prescribed her with Nux Vomica 30c to be taken four times daily.

Keep it natural

Talking about natural food, my own family is the most difficult to convince of its goodness. They just love to eat what I would call 'junk food'. One thing that made it so difficult is that we love to go out to the mall either to watch movies or to just stroll around the mall to hang out as family. This is when the danger strike. With all the tempting food offers in the classy restaurants or in the numerous fast food outlets at the mall, one can really fell into the 'eating temptation'. Of course, the smell of food makes it even worse for those who just love to eat. To compensate this bad lifestyle, I cook or rather prepare only healthy food at home..... with lots and lots of vegetable. To this date, I am still struggling in converting my family members into raw food eaters.

Water Therapy

I read about water therapy few years back while I was taking my homeopathy course. When I was in India I bought a book entitled water cure written by a medical doctor. This was something quite unusual so I thought. However, I have always advised my patients to consume lots of water especially during their recovery period and all have had positive result. Most of my patients have nevertheless changed their lifestyle. They are more aware of natural healing and taking sufficient water is just one of them. I feel that this is something we should all take into seriously.

Curry Fish Head

One of Jerome's favorite dish is curry fish head. The other day he bought a huge fish (dunno what's the name)and asked me to cook it. When I saw the fish head, I almost fainted! (exaggerate). Anyway, I told him that it's just too huge but he still insisted and said that I don't have to cook any other dishes..just the curry fish head for dinner.

So here is our curry fish head..

The fish head is so huge that I have to use my biggest wok!!

Sweetheart was contented...

....and my kids...emm...its finger licking good!

Changing our lifestyle

Homeopathy stimulates the body's ability of healing itself. Nevertheless, when we choose this method of healing, we need to do a little bit of sacrifices. There is no point of taking homeopathic remedy and spend most of our time in front of the TV, with no exercise, insufficient sleep, eating too much fast food, smoking, excessive alcohol, and the list goes on. Obviously, we need to change our lifestyle. First and foremost drink plenty of water (pls refer to the website on Water Cure on the front page of my blog), eat fish and poultry rather than red meat, cut down on processed food and replace it with fruits and vegetables, exercise for 30 minutes 3 times a week or do some gardening, get sufficient sleep, don't smoke and don't drink to excess. All the above are suggestions that will help one to make the most out of a homeopathic treatment.

Joelle's ice-cream delight

Feeling hot? How about a plate of ice-cream to cool you down? This was what Joelle did the last time she was complaining about the weather. She simply took out a box of vanilla ice-cream from the freezer, scooped out three heap of ice-cream and laid it on the plate.
After topping it with her favorite Hershey's syrup, she sprinkled it with a tablespoon of nestum.'s superliciousss. be healthier Joelle should sprinkle some raisins and cubed fresh fruits to enhance the taste as well as to increase the nutrition content of this yummy food.

Dare to Dream

Let nothing hold you back from
exploring your wildest fantasies,
wishes, and aspirations.
Don't be afraid to dream big
and to follow your dreams
wherever they may lead you.
Open your eyes to their beauty;
open your mind to their magic;
open your heart to their possibilities....

Dare to dream.
Whether they are in color
or in black and white,
whether they are big or small,
easily attainable or almost impossible,
look to your dreams,
and make them become reality.
Wishes and hopes are nothing
until you take the first step
toward making them something!

Dare to dream,
bacause only by dreaming
will you ever discover
who you are, what you want,
and what you can do.
Don't be afraid to take risks,
to become involved,
to make commitment.
Do whatever it takes to make
your dreams come true.
Always believe in miracles,
and always believe in you!

Call waiting

The next time you feel like God cannot use you, just remember;
Noah was a drunk; Jacob was a liar; Leah was ugly; Abraham was too old; Isaac was a daydreamer; Joseph was abused; Gideon was afraid; Elijah was suicidal; Job was bankrupt; Jeremiah was a cry baby; The disciples fell asleep while praying; Peter denied his Master; Lazarus was dead..

Jesus calls ordinary, seemingly useless and unqualified men to become His disciples. Peter himself says it all when he tells Jesus: “ Depart from me Lord, for I am a sinful man.”
This statement captures the reality of someone who is called. Discipleship is not so much a matter of worthiness, but the willingness to be used by God for His mission.

REFLECTION: Lord, help me not to miss Your call and not to keep the people waiting. Amen
Rev 3:20 “ Look I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my call and open the door, I will come in to you and have supper with you.

Counting on us

I read an interesting anecdote which said that after Jesus rose from the dead, He was met by angels in heaven who asked Him whom He had planned to leave on earth to continue His work. “Just a small group of men and women who love me, “Jesus replied. The angels were concerned and asked Him: Is that all? What if this tiny group should fail?” Jesus said: “ I have no other plans ….”
Jesus is counting on us, on our love, on our commitment to Him. He believes in us. He trusts us. He needs us.
Unworthy as we are, let us not belittle His call, or should we belittle our response. In His work, no one is indispensable, but also, no one is unimportant. We are all invited. We are all invited to stay, and stay on.

REFLECTION: Lord, help me to stay with you, no matter what. Amen
Roman 8:38 “ For I am certain that nothing can separate us from His love”.

Simple life back to basics

We must eat to live. The quality of our lives is partially dependent upon the quality of foods we eat. Today, the quality of foods that is widely available in the market have been robbed of their vital nutrients. Our staple food such as rice, noodle and bread are processed and refined, obviously lacking in fiber. Most meats contain residues of hormones and medications which are fed to the animals. Even most of the fruits and vegetables contain harsh pesticides. Preserved and canned food, ready-made sauces and instant noodles have lost most of their nourishing qualities. Yet these foods are praised for their taste, convenience and long shelf-life.

The poor quality food, combined with improper eating habits, lead to disease. It is well known that heart disease, arteriosclerosis, strokes, high blood pressure and obesity result from a poor diet. Even illnesses that are not directly caused by improper nutrition such as cancer and multiple sclerosis are affected by dietary changes. Maintaining a nutritious, simple diet is an integral part of preventing disease and maintaining health.

Allium Cepa

If you have noticed my blog spot address is Allium cepa. Some of you may wonder what is Allium Cepa. It is a scientific name for red onion, a homeopathic remedy to treat common cold. As homeopathy works based on the Law of Similars which means 'similar to the suffering', remedies to be prescribed must be capable of producing similar symptoms in a healthy person. For example, when peeling onions, many people become tearful and develop a watery nasal discharge with burning and smarting pains. A common cold can also produce the same symptom such as watery eyes and nose, sneezing and with watery discharge which burns the nose and upper lip. This means that onions can cause symptoms in healthy people that closely resemble the conditions of a common cold. So, by applying the Law of Similar, Allium Cepa can be prescribed to the patient having similar conditions.

Hi to my simple life

Today I finally started my very own blog. My deepest desire is that I would be able to depict my simple life through this blog; my thoughts, my beliefs and my passions. It would be great if this blog would grow into something valuable for others as well. Ha..ha..ha we'll see how it goes.
